Whether you’ve been with your partner for decades or are just getting to know someone you’ve started dating, these questions are designed to give you a proper insight into how your partner thinks and feels.

Given the choice of anyone in the world, whom would you want as a dinner guest?

A great ice-breaker, this question helps ease into conversation without being too serious. It will give you an insight into your partner’s likes and could be someone they admire such as a celebrity or sportsperson, or they could surprise you with the answer!

If you could wake up tomorrow having gained any one quality or ability, what would it be?

This is a fun question and can let your imaginations run wild; some might choose an ability like knowing how to cook or learn a language overnight, for others it might be something crazy like the ability to fly!

What would constitute a “perfect” day for you?

A sneaky way to find out what they love if you want to plan a day out, they’ll tell you what they love in an ideal day and it’s a good opportunity for you to tell them your version too.

If you were able to live to the age of 90 and retain either the mind or body of a 30-year-old for the last 60 years of your life, which would you want?

This question helps reflect on how you currently live your life and if you’re keeping your mind and body in check to try retain both as you get older.

For what in your life do you feel most grateful?

This gives some perspective and makes you appreciate the good things in life. Common answers would be things such as family, love, opportunity, freedom or health.

If you knew that in one year you would die suddenly, would you change anything about the way you are now living? Why?

A fun way to see what priorities you and your partner share or don’t share for the final year of your lives. This helps you see what you can start doing today to make your lives more rich and meaningful.

If you could change anything about the way you were raised, what would it be?

It helps to know how your partner was raised and what they might want to do and avoid in future for a family of your own.

If a crystal ball could tell you the truth about yourself, your life, the future or anything else, what would you want to know?

This gives you a closer look into how your partner’s mind works and their worries about the future.

Alternate sharing something you consider a positive characteristic of your partner. Share a total of five items.

I love this sharing activity as it’s a great way to compliment each other in not just a physical ‘you look nice’ way. Tell them what you love about their heart, mind, emotional intelligence or character.

Share with your partner an embarrassing moment in your life.

It’s always fun to share and compare embarrassing stories and find out something you might not know about your partner!

When did you last cry in front of another person or by yourself?

This helps break down barriers and acknowledge it’s okay to cry and be vulnerable.

What is your most treasured memory?

There may be many memories we treasure for different reasons; this provides some perspective into what your partner holds close to their heart and what is of sentimental value..

If you were to die this evening with no opportunity to communicate with anyone, what would you most regret not having told someone? Why haven’t you told them yet?

Finishing on this question is a great way to put a fire in your belly and start doing. We will never know when our last day on Earth is, so it’s a fantastic opportunity for you both to discuss what you would regret most and act on it now!

Having open discussions with your partner is wonderful, and asking these questions might give you a bit more intellect into their emotions and thought process in ways you wouldn’t able to figure out on your own! Try it tonight with your partner and see what answers lie ahead.
